The mass of the addition does not overwhelm the original home as the architect integrated the addition into the slope and used the natural sandstone quarried from the site forming a plinth that wraps around the upper patio and lower portion of the building.

Another staircase descends to a spacious lower level apartment that is its own retreat. The easily accessible apartment has its own driveway, a single level open floor plan that opens with French doors all around to a trellis covered pergola overlooking the canyon and ocean views, two full bathrooms with walk-in showers, a walk-in closet off the bedroom and a fireplace.
